CHAPTER 14. The right office (Job)

The suitability of the job or office has to do with many variables related to:

A) The surface material .

The material must be formaldehyde-free (E1) class and must not reflect light in the user's eyes when light falls on it.

B) The dimensions of the office and its settings .

The size of the office space is determined by the space available and the type of work for which it is intended. However, an important element is the height of the office from the floor should not exceed 0.75 cm of the meter, given that the average height of the Mediterranean man, including the Greeks, is 1.70 meters

C) Comfort:

The comfort it offers to the user in relation to the peripheral systems integrated on it (screens, cpu bases, document racks, cabling systems, keyboards, etc.).

The PC Screens

The screen is a serious source of problems for PC operators. It is a source of light reflections and often creates visual fatigue problems when it is not possible to adjust its inclination, contrast or can not rotate due to the position it is placed. It should be as far away from the window as possible and placed parallel to it (as you work the window to your right or left). This reduces direct screen illumination and annoying and harmful reflections.

The screen should be positioned correctly so that the top is approximately eye level. In this way the user avoids eye strain and constant head movements when reading the texts on the screen. Its center should be 15-30 degrees below the user's line of sight. Placing the screen on a variable height arm could be an ideal solution for an employee or for many who use the same job. With the arm they can adjust the position of the screen to the desired point or even move it in front of them when they are not working. The distance from the screen must be between 45 - 70 cm and the ideal distance to 60 cm. The screen size should be at least 15 inches and ideally 17 ".

Attention must be given to its frequency of renewal. The minimum required by the standards is 73 Hz. The larger the screen, the higher the refresh rate should be. The resolution on a 15 "screen is considered good when it is at 800x600 pixels. Higher resolutions result in better sharpness, but the letters and symbols become very small and tiring. On a 17" screen the resolution of 1024x768 is considered ideal. Higher resolutions should only be used on larger screens.
